Frequently Asked Questions

What are the different types of bamboo flooring?

Our bamboo flooring article describes three main types. Solid bamboo is made entirely from bamboo strips; engineered bamboo has a bamboo veneer over a core; and strand woven bamboo flooring is made by compressing bamboo fibers under pressure. The listings in this collection are grouped as solid tongue-and-groove, engineered click or rigid core click, and several describe their bamboo as strand woven. Some of those listings tie strand-woven construction to extra durability and to use in high-traffic areas.

Is bamboo flooring waterproof?

No. The solid and engineered planks here all ask for standing water to be cleaned up within 24 hours, and the Mesa Antiqued listing states plainly that it isn't waterproof. Annapolis White is listed as water-resistant because of its SPC core, but spills still need wiping up promptly. Our article on waterproof vs. water-resistant floors explains the difference.

-How are these bamboo planks installed?

It depends on the construction type. The solid tongue-and-groove planks here are nailed or glued down, the engineered click planks can be floated or glued, and Annapolis White floats. Most of these listings call for 72 hours of acclimation (7 days is recommended in very humid or dry climates), while Annapolis White calls for 24 hours. We don't offer installation, so whoever lays the floor should follow the installation instructions linked on each product page. Every floor here is also listed as radiant heat compatible, but check those instructions before pairing one with a heated subfloor.

Can bamboo planks go in the basement?

Every floor in this collection is listed as warranted for below-grade installation, and several listings name basements as a suitable space. The usual moisture care still applies below grade, so check the product page and installation instructions for your specific floor before you commit.

How do you clean bamboo flooring?

Every floor here has an Accuseal Ultra finish with aluminum oxide, which several listings say helps protect against wear and scratches, and every listing is marked pet-friendly. For routine maintenance, sweep or dry mop first to remove dirt and grit, then use a lightly dampened mop with a hardwood-safe cleaner diluted in warm water, leaving no excess moisture behind. Avoid wet mopping, steam mops and harsh chemical cleaners, and use furniture pads to help prevent dents and scratches. Each product page here links to a downloadable guide to cleaning bamboo wood flooring with more detail.
